1. Ecovacs Deebot X2 Omni

The X2 Omni robot vacuum-mop is the latest in Ecovacs range of hybrid robot vacuum mops. This model that is wet-dry is fitted with the company's upgraded AIVI 3D 2.0 lidar system that offers better mapping and obstacles avoidance. It uses dual-laser LiDAR -- similar to what you'd find in self-driving cars -- and can scan up to 32 feet wide by 270 degrees. This results in more precise mapping, faster response times, as well as better cleaning accuracy.

It also comes with an adjustable mopping pad made of chenille fabric. This makes it much easier to scrub difficult areas more effectively unlike traditional mop. In my tests it was able to clean the X2 Omni washed its pad in less than a second and then got to work. I noticed that it was more precise than other models that seemed to follow a grid around rooms. It was able navigate corners and edges of my rooms and also make "Zambani patterns" up and down the middle of the room. It also returned to its OMNI station regularly to empty the dustbin and clean the mop using hot water before starting another task of cleaning.

Like other Ecovacs products the X2 Omni is simple to set up and start using. It takes only a few minutes to snap the dock into position, plug it in and connect to your Wi-Fi network at home. Then, you can launch the app to start your first cleaning project. I was able to dive into the settings and modify my floor plan within about 15 minutes, incorporating zones that are restricted to sweep and mop as well as reworking my wall-mounted furniture placements, and so on. The X2 Omni impressed me in my tests. It scored high in the areas of pet hair removal as well as debris removal, and also had near-perfect results for edge and crevices cleaning.

2. Deebot T10 Omni

The biggest con with the T10 Omni is that it can't switch between mopping and vacuuming in one run. The two modes require that you attach and remove the mop heads as needed, which is fine for most homes, but isn't an ideal choice for those who have a busy schedule.

However, the Deebot Omni is a fantastic robot vacuum that has impressive results in our pet hair tests. It vacuumed up more than 96% of the debris we threw at it on our hardwood floors and floors, which is a remarkable performance. It also did an excellent job on tile and carpet, removing over 90% of dirt and debris.

This robot vacuum and mop has an extensive docking system that allows for automatic cleaning with cool water for the mop pads. It also features an auto-emptying 3L bag that's easy to replace and hot air drying for quick and easy maintenance. It also has a huge water tank that permits frequent washing and drying between mopping runs.

Like many other mopping robots such as the Deebot T10, this one comes with a wash tray at its base that cleans and dries its mop pads when it uses them. It doesn't have a removable tray so dust, dirt and other grime will gradually build up in the bottom.

3. RoboVac X8 Hybrid

This is the first mopping model made by Anker which is well-known for its robot vacuums. It offers improved smarts, multiple map support and LIDAR scanning, along with twin turbine suction technology that adapts to the surface you're cleaning. It's a tempting mid-range robot vacuum cleaner although it can't exactly live up to its promise of being a one-stop shop for floor cleaning.

The X8 Hybrid looks like a standard robotic vacuum cleaner from the top with its circular design, sweeping wheels and an elevated area for sensors. However, flip it over, and you'll find an electric floor brush and a single side sweeper which pushes dirt from the edges into the main pathway of the robot's'mouth'. It's a little smaller than the main brushes on the rival iRobot Roomba S9, which I found to be easier to fit under sofas and chairs.

Its mapping system lets you set up no-mop areas and specific cleaning zones. It has a tendency of bumping into things like its charging station, and isn't great at navigating over carpets. It did a great job of removing pet hair on floors that were not paved however, and during our tests, it took in 89.5 percent of cat litter - a figure that puts it ahead of all but the most powerful robots we've examined.

The X8 Hybrid is controlled via an app, however it also has physical buttons at its base. These buttons let you choose the cleaning mode, or turn the robot on/off. These buttons can be used to set up zones that are not allowed to be visited and to access real-time maps. It's a bit chatty, as well, and will inform you of what it's going to do next ("start cleaning") or even warn you that something's not right (it does not have enough power to charge, for instance).

4. ILIFE A4s

This high-tech model sucks up pet hair, kibble and other messes with remarkable efficiency and maneuvers flawlessly around furniture legs. It also has an impressive feature set that includes two cleaning modes and a self-emptying dock and a real-time obstacle avoidance system. The Wi-Fi enabled device can be controlled best through the Neato App, where cleanings are scheduled and maintenance requirements are monitored. The X2 Omni is an excellent choice for large homes with carpet, hard carpet and floors, but it requires some advanced planning to avoid getting stuck by electrical cords, toys, or other obstacles that might be unexpected.

In our test of hardwood floors and kibble it performed well and was able to take everything from one grain of rice to several pieces of dog food in just one pass. It had a bit of difficulty transitioning to carpets, however, in general, this vacuum cleaner is perfect for large spaces with flooring of all kinds and a mix of pets.

It's a bit expensive however, if you are able to manage the price, it's an excellent buy for those who want to leave their home hands-free to go about other tasks or take care of chores. The A4s Pro also offers a convenient auto cleaning mode that increases suction power to deal with tough dirt and spills, and it is equipped with an electric ElectroWall which allows you to place boundaries where the robot isn't allowed to enter.

This budget-friendly model from a popular upstart brand is the most affordable robot we've tested yet and offers an exceptional value for the cost. Its navigation system is based on a basic random pathing algorithm, and it lacks the ability to map rooms. This renders it less efficient than the other models on this list. However, it's still able to reach under furniture and in corners, and its mopping mode worked very well in our testing and was able to pick up pet hair and other debris easily.

5. Shark iQ

Shark's iQ might not be as durable, but it is better in removing pet hair from all surfaces. It cleans floors that are bare more thoroughly and does a good job on carpets with low pile and utilizes smart-pathing navigational technology to provide superior robot vacuum mops maneuverability. It also lets you send it to a specific area, and its advanced suite of automation features include no-go zones as well as scheduling. It can even pause and resume a cleaning session and is perfect for households with pets.

Its self-cleaning brushroll prevents the tangles caused by pet hair and other debris, and its bagless self-emptying dock station can hold up to 30 days worth of dirt prior to needing to be empty. It has a set of side brushes that are angled to reach into corners, as well as a multi-stage filter system that captures dust, dander and allergens.

The iQ robot vacuum is well-built and feels solid. It is compatible with a smartphone application which lets you alter the vacuum's settings and schedule cleaning sessions in advance. The iQ does a good job of removing bare floors and does a decent job on shaggy and low-pile carpet however, it doesn't have the same degree of autonomy as our top selections. It's also costly and the cost of recurring use can be quite costly.
